This project presents Pangea, a critical and speculative urban proposal developed in the city of Barcelona. In this fictional universe, free public space is entirely privatized. Everyday actions such as walking, buying bread, or throwing out the trash come with a direct economic cost, linked to the time each citizen spends on the street. This system exacerbates social inequalities: while the wealthy classes can freely access public spaces and services, middle and lower classes face significant barriers that impact their well-being.
To articulate this reflection, the project is divided into three main axes:
- A propaganda campaign for Pangea - this campaign includes materials such as brochures, posters, stickers, and digital content, including an AMP mobility card and a “starter pack” for new residents.
- The Anti-Pangea movement - as a critical response, a citizen movement has been developed to create artifacts that hack the privatized system in four key areas: healthcare, security, culture, and faith. All these designs are available as open-source, with detailed instructions for citizens to replicate them
- A denunciatory audiovisual piece - a real estate-inspired promotional video has been created, combining Pangea’s idealized facade with a subversive critique of its oppressive reality.
